Page: NewsParagon Law has global impactIn a joint celebration of the success of Paragon Law, the Nottingham Evening post has heralded the global impact of Paragon Law as well as shortlisting Managing Director, Thalej Vasishta, for the Young Business Person of the Year Award and also shortlisting Paragon Law in the Small Business of the Year Award. The article, by Business Editor Richard Tressider, is available to view below: Local firms and people seeking advice on immigration law are increasingly turning to Nottingham’s Broad Street-based Paragon Law. But the company, a comparative newcomer on the city’s legal scene, is making a name for itself around the world- not just locally. Established only five years ago. It provides advice on immigration, asylum and human rights matters as far afield as India and China. With its original team of 11 having grown to 55, it turned over in excess of £1m last year and is now a finalist in the Nottingham Evening Post’s Business Link-sponsored Nottinghamshire Small Business of the Year Award. And managing director Thalej Vasishta- who engineered an amicable exit of his team from Berryman Shaclock LLP in 2003 to stand alone status as Paragon Law- is a finalist for the EMDA-backed Young Business Person of the Year Award. “Specialising in immigration law and becoming a leader in this field means we consistently recruit talented and committed lawyer and case workers”, he said. “It also ensures a steady stream of referral from commercial law firm who do not specialise in our niche. “I am also proud to say that apart from being the firm of choice for many local law firms, we are also retained immigration advisers to the HR teams of a number of UK and international blue chip organisations. “Locally these include Speedo, Centre Parcs, Vision Express and the University of Nottingham.” Voted Nottinghamshire Solicitor of the Year by the local law society in March, he began his legal career in 1996 as a Nottingham Law Centre case worker, joined Berrymans a year later, qualified as a solicitor and then set up and ran the firm’s immigration team. Paragon has one of the largest Legal Services Commission contracts for immigration law in Britain. Internationally, the firm has a permanent office in India and also has a team based in Shanghai. It has already helped a number of Notts businesses expand their trade into India and China and expects its fee income from Asia to form 20 per cent of its turnover by the end of next year.
