Investing in the UK

The United Kingdom welcomes inward investment. Individuals making a substantial investment can move to the UK under the Tier 1 (investor) subcategory of the new immigration system.

To secure entry clearance, you must score a minimum of 75 points under the new Points Based System (PBS). (You find out more about this on our resources pages.) The key criteria are that you must have at least £1million of funds available to you in the UK and you wish to make the UK your main home.

£750,000 of these available funds must be for investment purposes - and you must make the investment within three months of receiving entry clearance. There are some restrictions on the types of investments you can make to ensure that funds are put into areas that will stimulate economic growth and productivity.

The balance of the £1million is to satisfy the UK authorities that you have sufficient funds to live on prior to earning from your investments.

It is important that you show the correct evidence through the initial application documents and at the time of the extension application.  You also need to ensure that, throughout the time frame of the investment in the UK, the balance does not reduce much below £750,000.
