“The Rules governing British Citizenship are complex and whether you want to acquire or register for British Citizenship there are a number of routes that you may or could follow.  This could for example be on the basis of your previous continued stay in the UK as a husband or wife of someone settled here.  Alternatively, you may be able to acquire Citizenship based on the fact that you have a grandparent who was a UK citizen or alternatively you may have the right to British Citizenship due to the length of time that you have now lived in the UK”.

We have given some examples here of how one may obtain citizenship and it is important that in order to make a successful application that good advice is obtained.  This is even more important because the laws concerning British Citizenship are currently under review and we expect changes throughout 2009.
